UFC 87 - "Seek and Destroy" Tonight!

expr:id='"post-" + data:post.id' >

Tonight starting at 10 o'clock on PPV is the first major MMA event that has taken place since I have been blogging here on BIBTTP. It is a UFC event, yes finally the best MMA organization out there will put on a great card, live from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. UFC 87 - "Seek and Destory" features one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world in Georges "Rush" St. Pierre (pictured above, at left). He is the current UFC Welterweight Champion of the World and he is taking on number one contender Jon Fitch (pictured above, right), a very impressive fighter who is actually undefeated in UFC competition (8-0). If you still think this sport is two guys with tattoos bashing away at each other with no skill what so ever, then please watch Georges St. Pierre or GSP for short, and see how good of a fighter he is, and I assure you that your views will change. This fight is going to be a very technical one, and the fighter that is able to execute their game plan better will come out on top. This fight is going to be what real MMA is all about.
More previews after the jump...

The card also features a heavyweight match-up between MMA veteran Heath "The Texas Crazy-Horse" Herring and former WWE superstar, Brock Lesnar. Yes I know what you're thinking, how can a fake wrestler be in a serious MMA promotion? I was a little skeptical at first until I remembered that Lesnar was a NCAA Division I National Champion wrestler when he was at the University of Minnesota. He possesses the real physical skills necessary to be a force in the UFC heavyweight division. Even though he lost his first UFC fight back in February, this fight with Herring, although not an easy one, may be the first step he will take to becoming a true MMA practitioner. The fight will most likely be a slug fest with some ground and pound thrown in there. So get ready for some fun.

The third major fight at UFC 87 is a lightweight match-up between Roger "El Matador" Huerta and Kenny "KenFlo" Florian. Both fighters are on winning streaks in the UFC and this is said to be the fight to see who is the number one contender and will eventually take on the Lightweight Champion - B.J. Penn. This fight should be very exciting because both fighters are high-octane, fast-paced guys who like to push the action. Florian likes to finish fights by any means, submission or TKO and Huerta is a relentless mixed martial artist who only has one career lose and is 6-0 in UFC competition. This fight has the makings for "Fight of the Night" status.

Please watch these fights if you can, and if you do not want to pay the 44.95 (which is a ridiculous price) to watch it live on PPV, I completely understand. But you can read live updates right here.
For more information on the entire event, including the full list of fights, check out UFC 87's official site.
Enjoy the fights!

MMA Sunday August 3 - Check It Out

expr:id='"post-" + data:post.id' >

Just a little reminder for everyone out there. There is a very solid live MMA event on free television Sunday night. The organization is called the WEC, which stands for World Extreme Cagefighting. It is actually owned by the UFC, and features a lot of lesser known, but not lesser skilled fighters. They are up and coming in the MMA world and deserve some attention. The card this weekend features three title fights. If that is not a reason to watch then I will give you another. The current Light Heavyweight champion is a man by the name of Brian Stann. His nickname is "All-American", and for good reason. Brian Stann is a former US Marine Captain who did a tour in Iraq and received a Silver Star for his bravery/valor. He is a great American, a talented fighter, and more importantly a great human being. When I first heard his story I became a fan right away, and I am confident you will too. And he is one of many reasons to watch this WEC event. Plus, it's free, so why the hell not watch it.
The event starts at 9 o'clock on the Versus network. Check your local listings.
For more information on the fight card visit the WEC's official site
Enjoy the fights!

MMA Weekly Prescriptions

expr:id='"post-" + data:post.id' >

I don't mean to rip off the Doctor with my title but that is in fact what I did. Sorry. I could not think of a better title right now. So I just went with that. I hope everyone has been enjoying my regular MMA posts, and for those of you who have and are craving more MMA information, I have compiled a list of a few sites that I frequent regularly. Check them out and enjoy...

Sherdog
This is the foremost leader in MMA news and articles. The writers are knowledgable and they have the infamous "Fight Finder" feature. Search any name/nickname and you will get the full list of fights for that person and any person for that matter who has competed in any sort of sanctioned MMA event, ever.

Five Ounces of Pain
One of the more substance based MMA websites out there. Articles/videos added daily. The editor: Sam Caplan is one of the leading MMA reporters around. Check out this site if you want to find out what is going on in the MMA world and what is going to happen in the near future.

MMA Weekly
I only look at this site for the rumor section. It provides a clear list of upcoming MMA events and which fights are likely to occur on those dates. For the MMA fan, this knowledge is so exciting. A fight fan has trouble waiting a week for a fight, let alone three months and MMA Weekly provides news about events that have not even been finalized yet. So if you're looking to see who your favorite fighter will be taking on next, check out this site.

MMA Junkie
Much like BIBTTP, this site is a blog site that was created by a hardcore MMA fan and which has blossomed into one of the most viewed MMA sites out there. The articles are very informative and the site has a partnership with Yahoo Sports and publishes stories from Yahoo MMA writers as well. The articles are short (which is good for my short attention span) and it even has a tutorial for the fan thinking about betting/wagering on MMA fights. Check it out.

Well I hope you will find these sites as enjoyable as I do, and I promise you that viewing them daily will make you a much more knowledgable MMA fan and will get you hooked on the sport in no time.

Enjoy...Do Work

MMA Event this Weekend - Watch It

expr:id='"post-" + data:post.id' >

Just an FYI to all you budding MMA fans out there. This Saturday night, EliteXC will be televising their second network MMA event on CBS. Yes this is the same organization that promotes Kimbo Slice, but luckily he will not be fighting on this card and in fact the show has two very good matchups. The names may not be household names, but the four fighters will most likely make for two exciting/back and forth fights. The first is a welterweight(156 lbs-170 lbs) matchup between Jake Shields and Nick Thompson for the first ever EliteXC welterweight championship. And the second is the rematch between Middleweight(171 lbs-184 lbs) Champion Robbie Lawler and challenger Scott Smith. This is actually a fight that took place on the first CBS card in May, and was clearly the most exciting fight of the night until it was cut short by a referee stoppage due to a finger from Robbie Lawler into the eye of Scott Smith. It is not necessary to get into the specifics of these fighters, because that can be boring, but here are some exciting facts:
"Ruthless" Robbie Lawler has 17 wins in his career - 14 by Knockout/TKO
Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith has 13 career wins - 11 by Knockout/TKO
Those are good odds, so be prepared for some fireworks, I know I am.
The event starts at 9 pm on CBS and for more information visit
EliteXC's official site.
Enjoy the fights!

MMA 101 - Lesson I

expr:id='"post-" + data:post.id' >

With the emergence of the freak show and youtube sensation that is Kimbo Slice, and the popular reality show: The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV, the mainstream public has been introduced (finally) to the world of Mixed Martial Arts, or MMA for short. I am an avid follower/fan/enthusiast of this fast-growing sport and have been for quite a long time now and felt compelled to impart some of my knowledge to our loyal readers in hopes that you will become TRUE fans of the sport as well. The world of MMA is a little confusing and it is important to separate the real from the ridiculous and absurd. So I decided to start by busting some common myths in the world of MMA. So let us begin Lesson I...

Regardless of what ESPN will have you believe, the Ultimate Fighting Championships(UFC) is not the only organization that puts on MMA fights/events. Not even close. They are certainly the pioneers of the MMA world because they created The Ultimate Fighter reality show four years ago and their popularity has been growing by leaps and bounds due to the success of the show, but it pains me to hear people talk about MMA and refer to it simply as UFC fighting, or even worse, CAGEFIGHTING! For God's sakes never use that term please, I beg you. Yes, UFC fights do take place in a cage, an 8 sided cage specifically known as: The Octagon. But the truth is that not all MMA fights occur in a cage, in fact some take place in a standard four sided boxing ring.
The other myth that I would like to dispel for everyone is the whole Kimbo Slice phenomenon. Kimbo, the former youtube street fighter from Miami, sucks ass! He is horrible and should be put back on the streets of Miami where he belongs. EliteXC, the organization that promotes Kimbo (a rival company of the UFC), is trying to capitalize on his popularity with the naiive teenager demographic who think he is cool or a good fighter. He is a joke, plain and simple. The problem is that EliteXC was able to ink a network television deal with CBS (the first in MMA history) and the masses were subjected to their propoganda that Kimbo is a legitimate mixed martial artist. He is the farthest thing from that. He holds a MMA record of 3-0 with one being a very controversial win and the other two coming against fighters who were worse than he was and basically paid to take a punch and go down (for further reference: this type of fighter is known simply as "a can"). His last fight, the controversial one, came on the first ever televised MMA fight card on CBS to a fighter named James Thompson who is famous in the MMA world for getting knocked out (KO'd) in almost every single one of his professional fights. And what happened...Kimbo couldn't knock him out for three rounds. I'm tired of hearing about this Slice, this "street fighting legend" and from here on out will never mention his name again when I am discussing legitimate MMA topics. I promise myself that, as well as you fine people.

That is all for now folks, just a short little intro. So to recap today's lesson: in order to not sound like a complete moron, refer to this tremendous sport as MMA or Mixed Martial Arts and never ever refer to Kimbo Slice at all.
And just to make it clear, this is only the beginning. There is more to come, much more. Stay tuned.

I'm Glad to be here - theShow's Introductory Blog

expr:id='"post-" + data:post.id' >

Hello there everyone. I am theShow and I am happy to be a new contributor to BIBTTP. I would like to thank all the boys for allowing me to be a part of their tremendous website. Special thanks to the Doctor for his help, as I am not too computer savvy. In case you were wondering I am the master of useless information and am going to enjoy imparting this knowledge upon all of you, so I hope you enjoy random movie/tv lines, sports facts and poop references (hopefully not too off-putting, can't make any promises). Instead of just listing things about myself, I thought it would be better to tell a little story... Last week the Doctor and I had just finished some ice cream from the local Friendly's. I downed a McFlurry type concoction with vanilla ice cream and butterfinger topping. Next up - a round of golf (one of my many loves).

Surprisingly theShow birdied the first hole, a par 4. It started off with a pristine 285 yard drive, a spectacular 80 yard chip shot which landed less than a foot from the hole, and I finished off the first hole of the round with a tap in birdie putt. I was rather excited.

On or around the third hole, theShow began to experience some serious stomach pains. They were stabbing like pains in my side, and I realized that the dairy from the Friendly's ice cream was hitting me hard! I could hardly swing the golf club, and walking was becoming a struggle as well. Sure enough, the stomach pains were followed by strong Doo Doo Pie pains. A side-note: for those of you that do not know, Doo Doo Pie is my way of describing the brown stuff that is released periodically from everyone's bodies. I got it from an old SNL skit with Tracy Morgan. Here is that skit.

Anyway, the doo doo pie pains hit me and I had to use a port-a-john that was stationed on the course after the third hole. The inside was disgusting and there were bugs everywhere. The doo doo pie was solid, which was a bad sign, because there was no way these pains were eliciting a solid poop. I had to rush it because the Doctor and I had to tee off on the fourth hole. I felt a little better but again at the end of the fifth hole I was ready to explode again. The holes actually wheeled around to the same port-a-john I had used previously and I used a brisk jog to make there in time. I think the running loosened everything up because the doo doo pie explosion that I was expecting earlier came this time. It was not pretty at all. For the faint of heart, please stop reading now, for those who are brave...picture a blue lake with that mossy green film floating on the top, but substitute the blue water of the lake for that gross blue-chemical water that is in the port-a-dumpers, and the green moss for yellow/brown liquid doo doo pie floating on the top.

I got out of that small blue enclosure as fast as I could and proceeded to par the last three holes of the round. If it was not for that inconvenient doo doo pie explosion, I might have had a pretty good round of golf.

So that's my story, and I hope that I will be able to continue blogging after everyone reads it. Hey, like that book says: Everybody Poops, and I have no problem discussing my doo doo pie adventures with all of you. Thanks again to the guys for allowing me the opportunity to write on their site and I hope to talk to you all very soon.
